Owlstone Inc. Announces Phase III Award under Its Next Generation Chemical Detector (NGCD) Contract for the US DOD’s JPEO-CBD

Norwalk, CT, June 27 2016: Owlstone Inc. announced today it has been approved for Phase III of the US Department of Defense’s (DOD) Next Generation Chemical Detector (NGCD) program.  In this Technology Maturation and Risk Reduction (TMRR) phase of the program overseen by the Joint Program Executive Office for Chemical and Biological Defense (JPEO-CBD), Owlstone’s patented chemical detection technology delivering the highest level of sensitivity and selectivity ever achieved in a portable, self-contained unit is poised to enter final prototype testing and seek pre-EMD review.

JPEO-CBD’s NGCD program is funding a new family of products capable of rapidly detecting, classifying, and identifying Chemical Warfare Agents (CWAs) and Toxic Industrial Chemicals (TICs) in the air and on various surfaces including those presenting with interferent mixtures. Under the multimillion-dollar, multiyear contract, Owlstone has added new features to NGCD, its advanced chemical detection (CD) platform, to deliver broadband detection, reprogrammability, lightweight, and rapid response time in a handheld unit capable of detecting more hazardous chemicals at ultra-trace levels than any other single detector. Upon completion of the three-phase development program, JPEO-CBD’s purchases of new handheld chemical detectors could reach as much as $500M going forward, and as such would redefine military chemical detection solutions for the foreseeable future.
